Completed during my Master’s study, Bleaching is a short 3D animated film exploring coral bleaching through the visual language of advertising. The project reimagines environmental destruction as a luxury whitening commercial, presenting pollutants as desirable “active ingredients” that gradually remove colour and life from a coral reef.

Using polished product visuals, commercial-style motion, and an exaggerated advertising soundscape, the film creates an uncomfortable contrast between cheerful presentation and ecological collapse. It concludes with a nearly lifeless reef and the claim “99%,” parodying the effectiveness claims commonly used in cleaning and cosmetic advertising.

The project explores how 3D animation can appropriate familiar commercial aesthetics to critique consumer culture and its environmental consequences.
